Pedro Echevarría stole 22 bases for the Hershey Sports Club in the 1942 Cuban amateur season, leading the league in swipes. He hit .371/.429/.486 with ten runs for the Cuban national team that won the 1942 Amateur World Series; his two triples tied Charles Pérez for the event lead.
