Biographical Information[edit]

On October 7, 1983, Charles Hudson was the winning pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He pitched a complete game and allowed only four hits. Hudson had an excellent rookie season for the Phillies that year, going 8-8, with a 3.35 ERA in 26 starts. He pitched 169 1/3 innings that season and also made two starts in the 1983 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles, but lost both of these.

However, after this promising debut, he was unable to win in double figures in his next three seasons with the Phillies, with his lowest ERA during that stretch being 3.78 in 1985. He was traded to the New York Yankees in return for Mike Easler after the 1986 season and had a good year for the Bronx Bombers in 1987, when he went 11-7, 3.61 while splitting his time between the starting rotation and the bullpen. He fell back to 6-6, 4.49 in 1988, then was traded to the Detroit Tigers for Tom Brookens before the start of the 1989 season. He did poorly for the Tigers, with a record of 1-5, 6.35, and did not pitch again in the majors after that.
