Biographical Information[edit]

Chao-Ying Chen caught in the TML and CPBL and for the Chinese Taipei national baseball team. His brother is Chinese Taipei national team infielder Chao-Ping Chen

Chen represented Taiwan in the 1997 World Youth Championship, 1998 World Youth Championship and 2002 Intercontinental Cup. In the '02 Cup, he was 0 for 1 with a walk, backing up Chih-Kang Kao at catcher. The Kaoping Fala drafted him in the first round of the 2002 TML draft. Chen batted .210/.238/.283 in the only season with the Fala, and won the Gold Glove award. When the two leagues merged in 2003, Chen was assigned to the First Financial Holdings Agan. His batting was still weak in the CPBL, as he only hit .200/.261/.255 and .191/.240/.202 respectively in the first two seasons. He recorded a .256/.316/.356 batting line in 2005. The CPBL banned Chen for life due to a gambling scandal after the 2005 season.

Overall, Chen had hit .213/.261/.273 in four seasons in the CPBL and the TML.
