Biographical Information[edit]

Celis González pitched for the Venezuelan national team in the 1983 Pan American Games, 1984 Amateur World Series and 1986 Amateur World Series. In the 1984 event, he led Venezuela in innings (23), strikeouts (16) and wins (3-0, half the team's victory total). He only allowed 12 hits and had a 1.17 ERA. He just missed the tournament's top 5 in ERA, trailing Dong-yol Son, Sheng-Hsiung Chuang, Mark Talarico, Jony Olivo and teammate Carlos Cardona. He tied Huang, Yasuhisa Kubo, Julio Romero and Jorge Luis Valdés for third in the Series in wins, one behind co-leaders Julio Moya and Hiroshi Nagatomi.
