Category talk:Blacklisted Players

From BR Bullpen

I expanded the definition as we already have minor leaguers banned (ex. Levan) and we can include NPB guys (such as from the Black Mist Scandal) or the numerous scandals to hit Taiwan or Korea. - --Mischa 09:28, 18 Apr 2006 (EDT)

It may be difficult to do, but shouldn't this category be called "Banned Players" rather than "Blacklisted" which is a derisive term, and does not appear in the player write-up of Mickey Mantle, among others.

We're over 100 players now. Many more to go if we cover all of the Taiwan gambling scandals. - --Mischa 10:46, 30 December 2008 (EST)

Cubans?[edit]

I notice a lot of Cubans on this list. I wonder if this category wouldn't be better kept for players who formally ran afoul of MLB or NPB rules, etc., rather than including anyone ever caught trying to leave Cuba. I guess a guy like Rey Anglada makes sense, since he was caught up in a gambling scandal in Cuba, but this seems better saved for truly scandalous players rather than anyone ever caught trying to leave Cuba. 64.20.45.178 00:24, 30 July 2011 (EDT)

They were banned from playing in their country's top league, just like Hal Chase in the US or Masayuki Nagayasu in Japan. The list doesn't distinguish between things like throwing games and political banning. Do people think we need separate categories to distinguish between those two areas? - --Mischa 13:27, 31 July 2011 (EDT)
