Biographical Information[edit]

Casey Upperman was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 24th round of the 2009 Amateur Draft out of high school, but opted to attend Yavapai College instead. The next year, the Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him in the 47th round and he played in their minor league system in 2010. There is a two year gap in the record and then Upperman reappeared pitching for the 2013 Normal CornBelters in the independent Frontier League. He did well enough with the CornBelters to be signed by the Baltimore Orioles organization where he finished out the year. Upperman didn't play in the minors or independent leagues from 2014-16, but came back for a final season in 2017 with the independent Cleburne Railroaders.

After his playing career ended, Upperman returned to Notre Dame as the varsity pitching coach for the 2015-2017 seasons. At the same time, he established his own training facility - Next Level Pitching Institute - which he ran until the end of 2018. He replaced Next Level Pitching with Rotational Athlete Solutions which Upperman still operates.

In August 2019 the Oakland Athletics hired Upperman as a Throwing Performance Coach, a role he retained through the 2022 season.
