Biographical Information

Carm Cozza was a minor league outfielder in the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox systems in 1952 and 1953. Cozza split 1952 between Fargo-Moorhead in the Class C Northern League (.257/~.324/.446 in 28 G) before being promoted to Cedar Rapids in the Three-I League (.221/~.275/.274 in 27 G). In 1953, he returned to the Northern League, this time with Superior, going 14 for 56 with 3 doubles, a homer and six walks. In 73 career games, he hit .250 with three home runs.

After leaving organized ball in the 1953 season, Cozza became a noted football coach. He began coaching football at his alma mater, Miami University, before moving to Yale University in 1962. He had been the starting quarterback at Miami in addition to playing baseball. In 1965, he was elevated to head coach at Yale. Upon his retirement in 1996, Cozza was the all-time leader in wins (179) in the Ivy League. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
