Biographical Information[edit]
Carlos Sano has pitched as high as AAA and for the Dominican national team.
Sano was signed by the San Francisco Giants in 2017, at age 24, very old for a Dominican amateur's first pro contract. The scout was Sandy Moreno, who normally covered Nicaragua. [1] He had been pitching in Nicaragua, reaching 97 mph on the radar gun for Rivas. [2] As a result, he started at a relatively advanced level with the A-ball Augusta GreenJackets (0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 K in 5 IP) then quickly got moved up to the high-A San Jose Giants (5-5, 3.81 in 20 G).
In 2019, he pitched for the AZL Giants Orange (1-0, 3 R in 3 2/3 IP), San Jose (1-1, Sv, 6.00 in 11 G), Richmond Flying Squirrels (0 R in 2 IP) and Sacramento River Cats (4 R in 2/3 IP). He then was on the Dominican team for the 2019 Premier 12. He finished with the highest Dominican ERA, getting the tough call of starting against the hard-hitting Team USA. He allowed a leadoff homer to Mark Payton but then got Jo Adell swinging and Daulton Varsho and Bobby Dalbec on grounders. In the 2nd, things got worse; after Andrew Vaughn grounded out, Jake Cronenworth homered. Alec Bohm doubled and Erik Kratz singled him in, but was out trying for second on the throw home. After Xavier Edwards singled, Bryan Valdez relieved and let the inherited run score. [3]
