Catcher Carlos Balcázar spent 13 years in between appearances in North American ball.
Carlos debuted as a pro with the 1993 DSL Angels, hitting .326. He batted .301/.378/.462 with 17 doubles in 57 games for the same club in 1994. In 1995, he hit .301/.393/.409 for the AZL Angels in his US debut; had he qualified, he would have been 10th in the Arizona League in average.
Despite three .300 seasons in a row, the California Angels let Balcázar go. He split 1996 between the independent Adirondack Lumberjacks (.209, .366 SLG) and the Catskill Cougars (16 for 48). He did not return to the US until 2009 when he joined many other Colombians on the Yuma Bullfrogs; he hit .264 for the club.
He played for the Colombian national team when they won a Silver Medal at the 2010 South American Games.
