Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Richetti has pitched well in Italy for several years and also has played in the Olympics.

Richetti debuted in Serie A1 for Anzio in 2002, going 1-5 with a 6.32 ERA, allowing 80 hits and 44 walks in 68 1/3 IP in an inauspicious debut. In 2003, Carlos went 5-3 with 3 saves and a 4.28 ERA for Anzio. He went 3-4 with 8 saves and a 2.63 ERA for Anzio in 2004, striking out almost a batter per inning. He led the league in saves. That earned him a spot on Italy's team for the 2004 Olympics, in which he had a 8.53 ERA. Carlos tossed 3 shutout innings against a strong Team Canada but gave up 2 runs in 1/3 innings against the Dutch national team and 4 runs in 3 innings versus the Greek national team.

In 2005, the right-hander was 4-2 with a 2.58 ERA for Bologna, saving four games. He also was a frequent DH that year, hitting just .205/.311/.261 with 12 steals in 17 tries. He had a 1.35 ERA in four outings for Italy in the 2005 European Championship without a decision. Back on the mound solely in '06, Carlos struck out 84 in 73 2/3 IP for Anzio and went 2-6 with 2 saves and a 2.93 ERA.

Richetti was 5-4 with a 3.00 ERA for Nettuno in 2007, then won both of his decisions in the finals. He was the Nettuno ace in 2008, going 9-1 with a 2.22 ERA and outperforming former major leaguers Giovanni Carrara and Nelson Cruz. Carlos allowed only 67 hits in 93 1/3 innings and fanned 96. He led Serie A1 in strikeouts and wins and was third in innings. He failed to win a pitching Triple Crown as he was 10th in ERA. The Dominican native allowed one run in 7 innings and saved one game in the 2008 European Cup in Regensburg to help Nettuno finish second. He struck out 4 and allowed no runs in 2 2/3 IP in the Final Four, which Nettuno won. Carlos got the victory over Montepaschi Grosseto.

Richetti was on Italy's provisional roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic but did not make the final cut. In the Nettuno phase of the 2009 European Cup, Carlos was 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA; he was the only hurler to get two starts for Nettuno despite the presence of former major leaguers Jeff Farnsworth and Giovanni Carrara and former Cuban leaguer Remigio Leal. In the Final Four of the Cup, he gave up 4 unearned runs in 5 2/3 innings against Kinheim but Giuseppe Mazzanti's heroics helped Carlos avoid a loss; Nettuno went on to take the title.
