He tied Otis Stephens for second in the Tobacco State League in doubles, tied for 6th in triples, tied Elzer Marx for second in home runs (13 behind Orville Nesselrode) and was second to Nesselrode in total bases and RBI. He began 1948 as the Twins' player-manager but did not hit as well (.268/?/.366 in 54 G) and moved on to the Greenville Greenies (.266/?/.435 in 33 G).

He was player-manager of the 1949 Federalsburg Feds and hit .277 with 17 home runs and a .470 slugging percentage.
