Biographical Information[edit]
Calle Skogkvist played for the Swedish national team in the 1993 European Championship when they won the Bronze Medal, only their second medal ever in a European Championship. He hit .308/.550/.308 with 7 walks in 20 plate appearances and was 0-1 with a 9.45 ERA on the mound. He fielded .857, playing third base primarily. His loss came to Geoffrey Kohl of the champion Dutch national team. He tied Leslie Segers, Arnaud Fau and Bob van Aalen for 10th in the event in walks drawn and would have been second to teammate Johan Hasselström in OBP had he qualified. He also tied Javier Arrondo, Roger De Saedeleer and Joeri Loykens for 7th in IP (13 1/3) and his ten walks issued tied Patrice Baudin and Mikael Aho for 7th. In game 2 of the Bronze Medal games, he was trailing France's Samuel Meurant through five-plus innings in a game Sweden would win after Petter Westerlund took over.
He was with Sweden in the 1995 European Championship as well, going 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in two games, but going 2 for 4 with two walks, a run and a RBI on offense, playing third base a couple times. His loss came to Michael Wäller and Germany.
