Cadwallader "Cad" Coles was the most-frequently used backup and pinch hitter on the 1914 Kansas City Packers of the Federal League. It was his only season as a big leaguer.

Coles was born in Rock Hill, SC and attended college instate at Clemson from 1903-1904. In 1907, he played for the Spartanburg team along with John McMakin, who had also attended Clemson. From 1908-1911, Coles played for Augusta. After years of playing in the South, Cad came north in 1912 to play for Binghamton and stayed up north in 1913, playing most of the season for Elmira, for whom he hit .357.

Cad appeared in 78 games for the Packers, the most of any backup, although Johnny Rawlings had more plate appearances in fewer games (Rawlings, a rookie, also spent part of the season in the 1914 National League). Coles batted .253 with 25 RBI and the club did not win the Super Bowl. From 1915-1916, he continued to play for northern minor league teams. Here is a Coles baseball card from his playing days with Augusta. Coles drowned in Miami at the age of 56.
