Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder CJ Alexander is the brother of Blaze Alexander, who also made his major league debut during the 2024 season. Their father, Chuck Alexander pitched four year in the Cleveland Indians minor league system and their grandfather, Charles Alexander also played in the minors. Additionally, he is a cousin of pitcher Zach Plesac and a nephew of Dan Plesac and of Joe Plesac.
CJ was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 20th round of the 2018 amateur draft. He played in the Braves system until July 11, 2022, when he was of three prospects traded to the Kansas City Royals in return for a compensation round pick (#35 overall) in the 2022 amateur draft. He was in AA with the Mississippi Braves at the time of the trade and simply changed leagues, completing the season with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Texas League. In 114 games between the two stops, he hit .264/.302/.477 with 25 homers and 87 RBIs.
In 2023, he was promoted to the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers but had a tougher time of it, falling to .220 in 86 games with 13 homers and 36 games. He also had a rehabilitation assignment with the ACL Royals and after the season played in the Arizona Fall League. In 2024 he hit much better in Omaha. After 56 games, he was hitting .323 with 9 homers and 35 RBIs when he got the call to Kansas City He made his debut on June 24th, starting at 3B against the Miami Marlins and going 0 for 3 in a 4-1 win.
