Biographical Information[edit]

Byeong-Sik Kang played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 11 years.

Kang was drafted by the Hyundai Unicorns in the 8th round of the 1996 KBO draft, and he went to college first. He spent his 2000 and 2001 seasons in the military, and he also represented South Korea in the 2001 Asian Championship. Kang joined the Unicorns in 2002, and he hit .208/.281/.385 in 89 games in his first season. He struggled again in 2003 as his batting line was .139/.282/.262, then he recorded a .177/.286/.235 batting line in 2004. Kang improved to .247/.357/.401 with 6 homers in 2005, but he then slumped to .218/.333/.376 in 2006. He had a fine .274/.333/.393 batting line in 91 games in 2007, then the Unicorns became the Woori Heroes after that season.

The Seoul native hit .269/.355/.437 in 71 games in 2008, then he only played 54 games with a .250/.376/.382 batting line in 2009. Kang was named the captain of the Heroes in 2010, and he had his career year. He played more than 100 games for the first time in his career, and his batting line was .287/.391/.438. However, Kang slumped to .174/.249/.270 in 2012, and he only played 26 games with the big club in 2013. He announced his retirement after the 2013 season, and he became a coach. He was the minor league batting coach for the Heroes from 2013 to 2013 and the assistant batting coach for their big club from 2015 to 2016. He served as batting coach for the Heroes from 2017 to 2023, and he moved to the SSG Landers in 2024.

Overall, Kang hit .236/.334/.376 with 308 hits and 39 homers in 11 seasons in the KBO.
