Biographical Information[edit]
Big, strapping Bud Zipfel, sometimes known as "Zipper the Ripper", played parts of two seasons in the major leagues with the new Washington Senators in 1961 and 1962. Signed by the New York Yankees at age 17 in 1956, he drifted to 12 minor league teams in 11 years before concluding his professional baseball career at age 27.
Zipfel was born in Belleville, IL, and there is still a "Bud Zipfel Apartment Rentals" in Belleville.
