Biographical Information

Pitcher Brian Shaffer was selected in the 6th round of the 2017 amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, out of the University of Maryland. He began his pro career that season with the AZL Diamondbacks and also pitched for the Hillsboro Hops that year. Combined, he was 0-0, 3.38 in 13 games (10 starts), pitching a total of 24 innings. Most remarkable among his statistics was a K/W ratio of 26/1. In 2018, he began the year in the Midwest League with the Kane County Cougars. He was 7-5, 2.70 after 19 starts when he was traded to the tampa Bay Rays along wiith C Michael Perez in return for P Matt Andriese.
