Biographical Information[edit]

Capping a journeyman's career, Brian Gordon got a chance to return to the big leagues in June 2011, when the New York Yankees' starting rotation was crippled by injuries. In his first major league appearance since 2008, he held his former team, the Texas Rangers, to 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings on June 16th. He had been signed by the Yanks from the Philadelphia Phillies’ AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, where he was 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA, the best in the International League. The Yankees went on to win the game, 3-2 in extra innings. The developing fairy tale came to a crashing stop in his next start, in the second game of a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds on June 22nd. He gave up a homer to the first batter he faced, Chris Heisey, who would go on to hit three in the Reds' 10-2 win. Gordon gave up two more long balls in taking the loss.

Gordon didn't last long in the majors and finished the season with the SK Wyverns in the Korea Baseball Organization. He went 6-4 with a 3.81 ERA in 14 games. After doing well in the postseason, he was called on to start game 5 of the 2011 Korean Series. He lost a 1-0 duel to Woo-chan Cha, serving up a 4th-inning homer to the Samsung Lions' Bong-kyu Kang. That gave Samsung its 5th title, beating defending champions SK 4 games to 1.
