Biographical Information

Pitcher Brian Bass was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the sixth round of the 2000 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Dennis Woody and made his pro debut that summer.

He never played in the majors for the Royals, signing as a 6-year minor league free agent with the Minnesota Twins before the 2007 season. His best season in the Royals' organization was in 2005, when he crafted a 12-8 record as a starting pitcher for the Wichita Wranglers of the AA Texas League; his ERA was 5.24 in a hitters environment. After going 7-3, 3.48 as a swingman for the Rochester Red Wings in 2007, he made his debut with the Twins at the start of the 2008 season, pitching 44 games in Minnesota before being sent to the Baltimore Orioles in September. Overall, he went 4-4, 4.84 in 59 games between the two teams; he was exclusively a reliever in his 44 games with the Twins, but 4 of his 5 appearances in Baltimore were as a starter.

He was back in the bullpen full-time with the Orioles in 2009, with very similar results as his rookie year - 5-3, 4.90 in 48 games. He became a free agent after the season and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was hit hard in three relief appearances in late April and early May and was sent down to the minors, then returned for one more game in September. He did pitch fairly well for the AAA Indianapolis Indians, going 4-4, 3.26 in 41 appearances. Overall, he gave up 10 runs in 7 1/3 innings for a 12.27 ERA. The Pirates did not re-sign him after the season, and he inked a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, going to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs where he was used as a starter. He logged brief time with the Hanwha Eagles of the KBO in 2012 and finished his career with a stint with the independent Camden Riversharks in 2013.
