Biographical Information

Brian Barden was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 6th round of the 2002 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Ed Gustafson and made his pro debut that summer. On April 3, 2007, Barden made his major league debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks as a pinch hitter in their 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Colorado Rockies. In four seasons (119 games) with three teams, Brian batted .211 with 4 home runs and 21 runs scored.

Barden was with the USA for the 2008 Olympics; initially slated as a backup infielder, he became their regular second baseman when Jayson Nix was injured. He hit .265/.342/.441 with 8 runs in 9 games for the Bronze Medal winners. He had 3 hits in their loss against the Gold Medal-winning South Korean national team. Against Team Canada, his solo homer against James Avery began their comeback and his double off Chris Reitsma tied the game in a key 5-4 victory. He scored and drove in runs in the 4-2 win over the Japanese national team. In their semifinal loss to the Cuban national team, he made a run-scoring error. His six runs scored in the first round tied Nate Schierholtz, Chih-Sheng Lin and Michel Enríquez‎ for third behind Frederich Cepeda and Alexei Bell.
