Biographical Information[edit]

Brandon Hamilton was drafted in the 1st round of the 2007 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers. The 60th overall pick, it was compensation for the loss of Jamie Walker to free agency. He was Detroit's second selection, following Rick Porcello. The scout was Jim Rough. He played in the minors through 2009 reaching low-A ball. Hamilton had a good pro debut with the GCL Tigers in 2007, going 1-1 with a 3.10 ERA and .171 opponent average. Baseball America rated him as the 10th-best prospect in the Tigers chain and as having the best curveball in their system.

Hamilton split 2008 between the GCL Tigers (5-1, 1.86, .186 opponent average, 42 K in 38 2/3 IP) and West Michigan Whitecaps (0-5, 5.01, 28 BB in 32 1/3 IP). He was named the GCL Tigers Pitcher of the Year and tied for third in the league in wins. With the '09 Whitecaps, he was worse at 5-5, 7.09. He tied Ethan Martin for fifth in the Midwest League in 61 walks, despite only pitching 99 innings. Overall, his career record was 11-12 with a 5.25 ERA and 114 walks in 190 1/3 innings.
