Biographical Information[edit]

Left-handed pitcher Brandon Eisert was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of Oregon State University. With the Beavers, he took part in the 2017 and 2018 College World Series, winning the national championship the second year on a team that also featured Adley Rutschman and Steven Kwan.

He was used almost exclusively as a reliever in college and the minors, although he did start some games for Oregon State in his final season there, in 2018, and as an opener in AAA. His professional debut was delayed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic wiping out the 2020 minor league season, but he rose quickly up the ranks, reaching AA by the end of that first year. In 32 appearances, he went 6-1, 3.55 with 1 save and 82 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings. He then spent all of 2022 and 2023 with the AAA Buffalo Bisons, being added to the Jays' 40-man roster before the 2023 season. His record was 4-3 both years, with ERAs of 3.41 in 45 games and 4.17 in 59 games respectively.

He was back at Buffalo at the start of 2024 and saw his ERA irretrievably damaged in his first outing against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on March 29th, when he gave up 7 earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning. That gave him an ERA of 94.50 for March, but he pitched a lot better after that, although he did miss a couple of weeks of action in April. On June 17th, he was called up to Toronto when closer Yimi Garcia went on the injured list. He was the fourth lefty in the Jays' bullpen at that point, joining Tim Mayza, Genesis Cabrera and Brendon Little - a temporary situation that was largely a function of injuries to top-level righty relievers like Garcia and Jordan Romano. He made his debut against the Boston Red Sox the day of his call-up, pitching the final two innings of a 7-3 loss. He did not give up any runs in spite of some traffic, helped by Romy Gonzalez being caught stealing at third base in the 8th, and Tyler O'Neill grounding into a double play in the 9th. He was sent back to Buffalo the next day, came up for a day in mid-July but returned to Buffalo without having appeared in a game, and came up once again as the 27th man in a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles on July 29th. He was needed quickly, as Yariel Rodriguez failed to make it out of the 1st inning of the first game. He pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up 3 runs.
