The Bowie Nationals went 18-24 to finish in last place in the only season of the Maryland Fall League in 1998. The team from Bowie, MD had the #3 and #4 pitchers in the MFL in ERA - Jim Lynch (3-2, 2.72) and Robert Averette (2-1, 3.34). The offense was led by Brady Clark (.305, 4th in the league in average, the league with 11 doubles, second with 25 RBI, tied for second with 24 runs) and Tike Redman (.293); the two tied for the league lead with 39 hits apiece. Rod Smith (.236) led the loop with 28 runs (on just 21 hits) and 17 stolen bases. Jayson Werth was considered one of the top prospects on the team.
