Biographical Information

Bob Wood played seven seasons in the majors, appearing in at most 98 games in a season. He was with the Cincinnati Reds in 1898-1900, the Cleveland Indians in the new American League in 1901-02, and the Detroit Tigers in 1904-05. Sam Crawford was a teammate with both Cincinnati and Detroit.

Although it was reported a couple times that he was born in Scotland, Wood was born in Thorn Hill, OH, in northeastern Ohio near the Pennsylvania border. He didn't come to the majors until he was nearly 33 years old. He was still playing in the majors at age 39 and in the minors at age 42. In perhaps his most impressive year with the bat, 1899, he hit .313 with an on-base percentage of .404.

He was with Milwaukee for most of the 1903 season, and hit .324, but fractured a rib toward the end of the season.

In 1905 it was said that he owned two farms near Girard, OH.
