Bob Ryan
Bob Ryan is a sports columnist who received national attention as a member of ESPN's Sports Reporters TV show in the early 1990s. He once claimed that Rick Lancellotti was the all-time minor league home run king, an error that others copied without any research and still persisted over 15 years later. Ryan used the number 255, which apparently was gotten from the movie Bull Durham and not from any history books. At the time, Hector Espino had hit 484 minor league homers, far more than Lancellotti, while Buzz Arlett had hit 432 in US-based leagues.
