Biographical Information

Pitcher Bob Maneely was drafted out of high school by the Kansas City Royals in the 23rd round of the 1976 amateur draft, but chose instead to attend Frederick Military Academy, a prep school. Despite having a basketball scholarship offer to Wake Forest University, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 3rd round of the secondary phase of the January 1970 amateur draft and played for the Caldwell Cubs in 1970. Maneely got off to an excellent start in his pro career with a 9-4 record and made the all-star team. He started the next season with the Quincy Cubs, but moved up to AA with the San Antonio Missions and compiled a record of 5-2 there. Maneely opened the 1972 season with the Midland Cubs, but experienced elbow problems, the bugaboo for pitchers, for the first time. He also pitched for Quincy again. In November Maneely was traded to the Minnesota Twins with Joe Decker and Bill Hands for Dave LaRoche.

Maneely went to spring training with the Twins in 1973 and pitched well. Many expected him to go to AAA, but instead he spent 1973 with the AA Orlando Twins. He was disabled from May 28th through August 3rd due to a torn rotator cuff. He returned to the lineup in August, but was operated on August 28th. He went to spring training with the Twins again, but was optioned to Orlando again in 1974. In July, after three particularly poor outings, Maneely was off to the doctor again, ending his season. Returning to Orlando for the third year in a row, Maneely was the Southern League Pitcher of the Year in 1975 with a record of 14-8. 1976 saw Maneely with the Twins’ top farm club, the Tacoma Twins, but by June of that year had "severe arm trouble". It was his last season in pro ball.

Maneely was inducted into the Camden County Hall of Fame in 2018.
