Biographical Information[edit]
Bob Lipski was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies on July 19, 1956 and played in their farm system until 1962, when he was selected in the Rule V Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
Cleveland gave him his shot in the majors on April 28, 1963 in a game against the New York Yankees, bringing him in as a pinch-hitter and going 0 for 1 with a strikeout in his only big league at-bat. He only got into one more game with them, on May 1, in which he was put in as a defensive substitution to catch. A week later, the Indians returned him to the Phillies and he finished out the year with the then-AAA Arkansas Travelers.
In 1964, the Phillies sent him to the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1965, the Cardinals traded him to the Detroit Tigers, along with Glen Hobbie in exchange for Dick Egan. Lipski played part of the 1966 season in the Tigers' farm system, and also in the Kansas City Athletics' and Washington Senators'.
He got to pitch in 1 game for the York White Roses in '66 and gave up 5 hits, and 4 runs (all earned), balked once, and posted a 36.00 earned run average and 5.000 WHIP in just 1 inning of work on the mound.
