Biographical Information[edit]
Bob Carpenter purchased the Philadelphia Phillies in 1943 and, in an attempt to give the team a new image, briefly renamed them the Philadelphia Blue Jays. His son, Ruly Carpenter, succeeded him as the club's president in 1972 until the family sold the Phillies in 1981.
Carpenter also owned the Wilmington Blue Bombers of the American Basketball League. His fortune came from his mother, Margaretta L. du Pont, who was an heir to the DuPont Company fortune.
