Biographical Information

Robert McClelland "Bob" Barr pitched five seasons in the majors. His best year was 1890 when he went 28-24. In his five years he pitched for six teams, provided you count the 1884 Washington Nationals and 1886 Washington Nationals as different teams because they played in different leagues. He also played for the minor league Washington Nationals in 1885.

He is not to be confused with another Bob Barr, Robert Alexander "Bob" Barr, who pitched in the majors in 1935. This Bob Barr was born in Washington, D.C., in 1856, the same year Sadie Houck was born there. He died in Washington, D.C. in 1930, the same year that Mickey Keliher died there. Barr played from 1886-90 for Rochester, where he was a teammate of Doc Kennedy from 1886-88. While Barr was a two-way player in the majors, 159 of his 187 appearances were as a pitcher.

The SABR biography of Hugh Daily indicates that Barr held out in 1886. When Washington lost 12 games in a row early in the season, the team lured Barr into the fold.
