Biographical Information

Edgar "Blue" Washington was a Negro League pitcher for the 1915-1916 Chicago American Giants and a first baseman for the 1920 Kansas City Monarchs, where he backed up Tank Carr. He was also a professional boxer for a spell.

Washington was noted more for his film stardom. He appeared in 70 movies, primarily in stereotypical roles for blacks of the era. He began in silent films, where he worked with the likes of Buster Keaton. His son Kenny Washington was an All-American football player at UCLA and played in the minors in 1950. His grandson Kenny Washington Jr. and great-grandson Kraig Washington also played in the minors.

Washington appeared most notably in Gone With the Wind (1937) and the original Angels in the Outfield (1951).
