Gary Ashwill

Gary Ashwill (born 1968) is a baseball author, researcher, and analyst, particularly of Minor League, Negro League, and Cuban baseball, probably best known for his baseball research blog AgateType. He also contributes to the Hall of Merit at Baseball Think Factory, and is co-founder with Kevin Johnson (KJOK) and Dan Hirsch of Seamheads.com's Negro Leagues Database.

Originally from Kansas City, MO, he now lives in North Carolina. He is a freelance editor. Before creating AgateType, he was part of the Hall of Fame's Negro League Researchers and Authors Group (NLRAG), contributing statistics from the 1928 and 1934 seasons of Negro League play.

He was honored by SABR in 2021 with the Henry Chadwick Award for outstanding contributions to baseball research.
