Biographical Information[edit]
Blake Butler played college ball at the College of Charleston in South Carolina for three seasons. The Cincinnati Reds drafted him in the 15th round of the 2015 Amateur Draft and he played in their minor league system from 2015-2017. Butler played a utility role for his teams with second base as his most common position. Overall he hit .238 with an OBP of .289 and a slugging percentage of .328 in 234 games.
Butler returned to college in 2018 to finish his undergraduate marketing degree and to begin his coaching career. While at Charleston he served as a student assistant coach. After completing his degree, Butler accepted an assistant coaching position at Francis Marion University in August, 2018 and stayed there into early 2020. He made a brief stop at Davidson College as a volunteer assistant coach in early 2020 before the Pittsburgh Pirates lured him into the professional ranks.
The Pirates assigned Butler to coach the Altoona Curve in 2020 before COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the minor league system. In 2021 he moved down a level to serve as the development coach for the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Butler was the Altoona development coach in 2022-2023 though his official title was Integrated Baseball Performance Coach. Butler became a manager with Greensboro in 2024.
