Biographical Information

Billy Gasparino was a minor league player who later became a scout.

Gasparino hit .223/.266/.356 as a college freshman for Georgia. He transferred to Oklahoma State and batted .336/.436/.668 with 18 home runs, 26 doubles, 21 steals (in 29 tries), 89 runs and 62 RBI in 65 games. He had very similar numbers in 1998 (.336/.433/.613, 23 SB, 4 CS, 13 HR, 72 R, 59 RBI in 55 G). As a senior, he hit .364/.457/.757 with 24 home runs, 27 steals (caught just 3 times), 96 runs and 91 RBI in 66 contests. He helped OSU make it to the 1999 College World Series.

The Colorado Rockies took the Florida native in the 17th round of the 1999 amateur draft. He was the primary third baseman for the Portland Rockies, fielding .905 there and producing at a .260/.373/.388 clip with 48 runs and 40 walks in 62 games.

Gasparino was a Cleveland Indians intern in 2003. In 2004-2006, he was a Southern California scout for the Toronto Blue Jays, signing Casey Janssen. From 2007-2010, he was a national crosschecker for Toronto. He moved to the San Diego Padres in the same role in fall of 2010. In late 2012, San Diego promoted him to Scouting Director, replacing Jaron Madison. In 2015, he was named director of amateur scouting for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
