Biographical Information

Bill Glynn was the first baseman on the great 1954 Cleveland Indians team that won 111 games. However, although he appeared in 96 games at first base (and 111 games total that year), Vic Wertz had more putouts and assists in the 83 games where he appeared at first base, since he played more innings at the position. Wertz, who came over from the Baltimore Orioles in mid-season, appeared in 94 games that year with the Indians, but had many more actual at-bats than Glynn, who had 171 at-bats in his 111 games.

Purchased from the Pacific Coast League in 1952, he took over Luke Easter's job at first base in 1953. He was ten years younger than Easter. Although he hit only 5 home runs in 1954, he had 3 home runs in one game on July 5th, according to an article in Wikipedia on players who have hit three home runs in a game.

He appeared just twice in the 1954 World Series, going 1-for-2. In his last at-bat in the major leagues, he hit a pinch-hit double in Game 3 of the Series off Ruben Gomez.

Glynn's minor league career ran from 1946-1958, and in the minors he hit over 150 home runs.
