Biographical information[edit]

Infielder Bill Dancy played in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 1973 to 1978. In 1973, Dancy homered from both sides of the plate in a game. In 1974 he was named all-star shortstop of the Western Carolinas League playing for the last-place Spartanburg Phillies.

After his playing career ended, he coached at Reading in 1978, then spent more than two decades as a minor league manager and coach (mostly in the Phillies organization, aside from a two-year stint as skipper of the Richmond Braves). Dancy's 1980 Peninsula Pilots team was rated 74th-best in the minor leagues in the 20th Century by Marshall Wright and Bill O'Neal. He was the Phillies' infield coordinator in 2000, and was the field coordinator from 2001 to 2004. He became the Phillies' third base coach in 2005 and held that position for two seasons.

After managing in the Chicago Cubs' organization for a couple of seasons in 2010-2011, Dancy was named the Cubs' minor league infield coordinator in 2012. Dancy joined the Detroit Tigers as minor league field coordinator in 2013 [1]. In June 2014 he was named acting manager of the Lakeland Flying Tigers while Dave Huppert was away from the team for health reasons [2].
