Biographical Information[edit]

"Manager Jack O'Connor, of the Browns, facetiously observes that it was "no wonder pitcher Crouch exploded, considering that he came from the du Pont Powder Co.'s team." - Sporting Life, July 30, 1910, saying 'facetiously' because Crouch actually did a pretty decent job

Father of the other big league Bill Crouch, Bill Crouch pitched eight innings in one game for the 1910 St. Louis Browns, who lost 107 games. Crouch's ERA, 3.38, was close to the team ERA of 3.09 but a bit above the league ERA of 2.52. Crouch had been pitching for a company team and, in his one major league appearance, opposed Walter Johnson. After eight innings, the game was halted at 4-4 due to rain. His son, pitching in the National League, had a longer career, going 8-5 over three years in the majors. Father and son are two of four major league players (through 2019) with the last name Crouch.
