Biographical Information[edit]
If Bill Bonham had never developed a sore arm, he might have been one of the best pitchers the Chicago Cubs turned out during the 1970s. Debuting in 1971, Bill became an innings machine for the Cubs, putting up over 200 in three seasons while recording triple digits in strikeouts five consecutive seasons (1973 to 1977). Although he went only 11-22, Bonham struck out 191 batters in 1974. Additionally, he was sometimes used as a pinch runner. Bill was flipped to Cincinnati after the 1977 season for a former (Woodie Fryman) and future (Bill Caudill) All-Star, hanging around for three more seasons before his arm gave out.
Bonham was pitching coach of the Auburn Astros in 1986.
Notable Achievements[edit]
