Founded on July 26, 2022, Baseball United was established as part of efforts to bring professional baseball to the Middle East, along with Pakistan and India. The inaugural four teams are: the Abu Dhabi Falcons in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; the Dubai Wolves in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; the Karachi Monarchs, in Karachi, Pakistan; and the Mumbai Cobras in Mumbai, India.

The league plans to renovate old cricket stadiums to turn them into baseball stadiums. A number of former major leaguers were announced as stakeholders in the league such as Barry Larkin and Mariano Rivera, along with current major leaguer Elvis Andrus.

In the league's first draft that took place October 23, 2023 a number of former major league players were included. Some notable names were Bartolo Colon, Robinson Cano, Andrelton Simmons, and Didi Gregorius.
