Biographical Information[edit]
In addition to playing catcher in one game for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1970, Bart Zeller was also a coach with the club. Zeller actually made the Cardinals' opening day roster in 1970, as a third-string catcher behind Joe Torre and Ted Simmons. He only got to play once, on May 21st, catching a half-inning and never getting a chance to bat.
Zeller later was bench coach for the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2005-2006 and Southern Illinois Miners in 2007. In 2011 was appointed manager of the Joliet Slammers in their first season in the circuit. He won the league championship in his first season.
Although in his late 70s, as of 2019 Bart was still coaching in independent ball. [1]
"When I played Little League, all I - all everyone - wanted to do is play baseball, and I was lucky enough to do that" - Bart Zeller
