Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Barry Jones played professionally from 1984 to 2000. He spent all or part of five seasons at affiliated Triple-A, but never ascended to the major leagues.

He played in the Atlanta Braves system from 1984 to 1990, posting some solid seasons. In 1987, with the Durham Bulls, he hit 15 home runs and had 23 stolen bases and in 1988, between the Greenville Braves and Triple-A Richmond Braves, he knocked 19 dingers and had 15 steals. That was his first try at Triple-A. He homered five times in six games for the Senadores de San Juan in the 1990 Caribbean Series to lead the event. His five triples in 1990-1991 tied Bernie Williams for the Puerto Rican League lead. He joined the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins systems in 1991, then went to the Mexican League for 1993 and 1994. He also briefly rejoined the Braves system in 1993.

He then spent six years in the Texas-Louisiana League, making a name for himself there as a player and manager. In 1994, he hit .317 and in 1995, his mark was .332. After a down year in 1996 and a year away from playing in 1997, he returned to bat .319 in 1998, .338 in 1999 and .297 in 2000 to finish his playing career. He also skippered the Abilene Prairie Dogs in 1997 and 1998, the Ozark Mountain Ducks in 1999 and 2000 and the Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks in 2001. He led the Mountain Ducks to a playoff berth in 2000.

In the affiliated minors, Jones hit a combined .267/.329/.406 with 67 home runs, 339 RBI and 100 stolen bases in 761 games over 9 seasons. In his six campaigns in the Texas-Louisiana League, he hit .309/.356/.437 with 33 home runs and 277 RBI in 395 games.
