I think it makes sense to list alternate spellings/transliterations for the many here unfamiliar with Korean so would argue for changing that policy. Also, alot of names that get transliterated as "Yi" are usually cited as "Lee." - --Mischa 09:50, 12 February 2007 (EST)

The alternate spellings (due to differences in transliteration systems can be listed in the {{langbox}}. I didn't change Yi to Lee because Yi matches more closely to the actual Korean pronunciation, which is something to the effect of I or E and it also would reduce confusion with the Chinese Lee. --MichaelEng (talk) 01:03, 13 February 2007 (EST)

How does one use the langbox? Can you use, say, Dong-Yeol Son as an example. We've had at least a half-dozen different transliterations of his name and I tried to use one of the more common ones as the "base".

One issue that we have is that the most commonly used spelling might not be the best phonetically. For instance, you had "Byeong-gyu Lee" as the transliteration for the player who is identified in English-language sources I've seen as "Byung-kyu Lee". I would think that we should try to be consistent with other English sources instead of going for a better phonetic adaptation. To use a totally unrelated example, in personal correspondence, I often use "khanukah" for the Jewish holiday which starts at the end of Kislev, but to a general audience, I would use "Chanukah" or "Hanukkah" or some other commonly employed transliteration, even if it isn't as accurate from a phonetic point of view. - --Mischa 13:09, 13 February 2007 (EST)

I like the flowchart concept. Often, the accepted English spelling is different from the "proper" one though from the majority of players I've found, which is partly what makes it difficult. - --Mischa 17:28, 25 March 2007 (EDT)
