BR Bullpen:Featured Article Candidates/Beau Mills
Beau Mills[edit]
Support. The only problems I see are a lack of an intro paragraph (easy to fix) and more complete citations. We need a new featured article. What do others think about this one? - --Mischa 19:58, 24 November 2008 (EST)
Support. Ditto everything Mischa says. --Jeff 20:43, 4 December 2008 (EST)
Support, with qualification. I agree that it needs an intro and improved citations. I believe that the "Family" section could be clarified, as my first reading gave me the impression that Beau played for the Expos instead of his father; it is practically the only sentence to not directly speak of Beau, and it's currently the second sentence in the article. However, I don't know what the criteria for a Featured Article is, and do not know whether a 2nd-year pro with 187 career games under his belt is all that notable, such as maybe being considered a top prospect. These are my only objections, however. I emphasize that I do not know what criteria is used; it IS a well-written article (other than that one sentence and the previously cited issues), and Dave Nilsson has been there long enough. -- Couillaud 23:03, 4 December 2008 (EST)
Comment. As the main contributor to the Beau Mills article, I don't feel right about giving a vote, but I will try to address the concerns raised here as soon as possible. On Tuesday, my house was broken into and my laptop and router were among the stolen items so my computer time is very limited at the moment. As far as the length of his career is concerned, Keith Ramsey is another one I did this summer and he has been around a little longer. Some people must like the Ramsey article, because someone copy and pasted it for Wikipedia. [[User:Kinston eagle|Kinston ea13:48, 5 December 2008 (EST)
Comment. Sorry to hear about your theft. My wife had a break-in when she was living alone at one point and it's not a good situation. In terms of length of career, that doesn't bother me much, as my idea in nominating this was the depth of information. My major concern with a featured article is that it be fairly exhaustive (the Clemente one will be great when done IMO).
I am willing to nominate the Ramsey one if you'd prefer that instead; what do others think?
Wikipedians seem to love copy and paste; they've copied lots of my articles over the years and I've found other stuff there taken from *copyrighted* sources. If you draw it to their attention, nothing ever seems to get done, so I gave up. I just like it when they at least cite their source, as they did with my Danny Rombley article. - --Mischa 14:20, 5 December 2008 (EST)
Comment. I have absolutely no problem with length of career either. The idea of a featured article is that it be a good article. There should be a variety of different subjects in the featured article anyway. Long careers, short careers, players, teams, GMs, whatever. --Jeff 14:38, 5 December 2008 (EST)
Support. It covers all parts of his career nicely. Alex 14:47, 5 December 2008 (EST)
Comment. If no one has a problem with the career length, and all are in agreement that it qualifies after a couple improvements, then there seems to be a consensus. Go for it. Couillaud 00:14, 6 December 2008 (EST)
Support. It's an excellent example of what we seek to do here. - Randy 21:07, 6 December 2008 (EST)
