Arquimedes Nieto made his pro debut in 2007, going 10-3 his first two seasons.
Nieto was with Panama for the 2006 World Junior Championship. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals a month before his 18th birthday. He went 4-2 with a 2.73 ERA for the 2007 DSL Cardinals, with 56 K:13 BB in 59 1/3 IP. In 2008, he had a 6-1, 2.95 record for the Batavia Muckdogs; the ERA was somewhat deceptive as it was at 1.76 after 14 games before surrendering 8 earned runs in 1 2/3 in a lousy finale.
Nieto was on Panama's roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He pitched one game in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, relieving Eliecer Navarro in a loss to Puerto Rico. Nieto intentionally walked Bernie Williams, struck out Felipe Lopez, gave up a Mike Aviles single and fanned Ramon Vazquez.
