Armin Gießen was a catcher-outfielder who played for the first three editions of the German national team. He hit .222/.364/.222 in the 1954 European Championship with a run and two RBI in two games, fielding .625 only. He tied Karl Phillipp for the team lead in RBI and tied Freddy Buchner for second in OBP (behind Philipp). He was 0 for 11 with 3 walks in the 1955 European Championship, fielding .833; he tied Helmut Buchner and Walter Schmid for the team lead in walks. He was 2 for 6 with a solo homer in the 1956 European Championship and had 8 putouts and no errors. Either he or Schmid had the first homer in team annals. Overall, he hit .195/.290/.269 with 3 runs and 3 RBI in ten games, fielding .905.
