Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Armando Alvarez reached the majors with the Oakland Athletics in June of 2024. Less than a week after making his debut, he was in the middle of a very rare play as he unwittingly managed to get a run erased and a teammate called out on a call of baserunner interference. On June 26th, in the 2nd inning of a game against the Los Angeles Angels, he was at second base with teammate Kyle McCann at first when Max Schuemann hit a double. He scored easily, but McCann stumbled on his way to the plate and missed touching it. He pointed out his mistake to his teammate, but in doing so helped to steady him and turn him around so he could retouch the plate. However, umpire John Bacon saw the whole thing and called McCann out, ruling that Alvarez's assistance constituted interference, as physical contact of this sort is strictly prohibited. Mccann's run was erased and Oakland went on to lose the game, 5-2.
