Biographical Information[edit]
Arian Cruz pitched for Camagüey of the Cuban National Series before emigrating to Costa Rica in 2001. He was 2-1 with two saves, a 3.82 ERA and .280 opponent average in 35 games (one start) in his two seasons for Camagüey. He struck out 38 and walked 31 in 61 1/3 IP.
Cruz pitched in the Nicaraguan winter league and for the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League (1-4, 3 Sv, 2.61, 38 K in 38 IP in 2002) before signing a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds in 2005. Arm problems kept him to only one season in their system. He split the summer between the VSL Reds (2-0, 0 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 17 K in 13 2/3 IP) and Chattanooga Lookouts (3-1, 3.26, 16 K, 23 H, 6 BB in 19 1/3 IP).
