Biographical Information[edit]
Antonio Susini was a Cuban infielder/outfielder who played for Almendares in the Cuban Winter League in 1918-19 and for the All-Cubans team which was a non-league team in the Negro Leagues in 1921.
He is mostly remembered for a tragic incident which took place on January 30, 1922 in an independent league game in Santiago de Cuba when a confrontation at home plate degenerated. He grabbed a bat and bashed José Leblanc over the head, sending him to hospital where he died the next day. He was arrested and served time in jail for murder. He later returned to playing, and is likely the same Antonio Susini who is listed as playing for Santa Rosa in the Mexican League in 1937 and 1938. He also seems to have toured the U.S. with another Cuban Stars team in 1936.
Little else is known about him.
