Anna Kimbrell was the first woman to pitch in an American Legion game in South Carolina and the first to get a win. She was the first female to play varsity high school baseball in the state';s history. She also won state swimming titles in the 50 meter freestyle and 400 meter relay.
Kimbrell played for the USA in the 2008 Women's Baseball World Cup, when they won a Silver Medal; she hit .400 and had a 2.84 ERA as a two-way threat. Going on to play college softball, she was back with the US for the 2010 Women's Baseball World Cup. She was responsible for a crucial loss to Venezuela. Replacing Marti Sementelli with a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th, she allowed a single and a walk before hitting three batters in a row. Lindsay Horwitz replaced her and proceeded to blow the remainder of the lead.
She hit .220 as a college freshman in softball at Samford, then transferred to UAB.
