Biographical Information

Angel Macias shot to fame in 1957 when, at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he pitched a perfect game in the final. This made his Monterrey Little League team the first foreign team to win the title. Macias had the rare ability to pitch with both arms. On the day of the perfect game, he was throwing right handed.

After his return to Mexico, the mayor of Monterrey gave the entire team scholarships to high school and college. Macias did attend high school but did not attend college, instead signing with the Los Angeles Angels. As an outfielder, Macias played two seasons in the Angels system, advancing as far as the Class A California League.

During the 1963 season, Macias returned to Mexico. He played in Mexico in 1964 for the Leon Broncos and Broncos de Reynosa. There is no record of Macias's 1965 campaign. He returned to Reynosa for five seasons before finishing his career with the Monterrey Sultanes from 1971 to 1974.

The story of the '57 Monterrey team has been made into two films, a 1960 picture in Mexico Los Pequeños Gigantes (The Little Giants) and a 2008 film in the United States called The Perfect Game.
