Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Andrew Madden was taken 13th overall in the 1977 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox, between pitcher Randy Martz and infielder Ricky Adams. He spent three years in their system and never played above A-ball.

In 1977, he was 1-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 12 starts for the Elmira Pioneers. In 71 innings, he allowed only 58 hits and struck out 40 batters -- but also surrendered 50 walks. With the Winston-Salem Red Sox in 1978, he was 0-2 with a 3.60 mark in six starts, allowing 12 walks in 15 innings. He returned to Winston-Salem to finish out his career in 1979, going 1-2 with a 3.77 ERA in nine starts, allowing 23 hits and 25 walks in 31 innings. Overall, he was 2-11 with a 4.00 ERA in 27 starts. In 117 innings, he allowed 96 hits and 87 walks, while striking out 59 batters.
